The School of Art and Design is dedicated to design, audiovisual communication, art education and art. It is internationally renowned and as the largest art and design education provider in the Nordic countries and one of the most highly respected institutes in its field in the whole world.
According to the degree structure at the Aalto University School of Art and Design, the School offers BA and MA degrees, as well as postgraduate degrees.
The degree types offered in the field of Art and Design are:
1. Bachelor of Arts, consisting of a three-year programme;
2. Master of Arts, consisting of a two-year programme; and
3. Doctor of Arts, which is a postgraduate degree.
The scope of the degrees is defined in ECTS credits. Full-time studies for one whole academic year account for approximately 60 ECTS credits on average.
Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture was formed on 1 January 2012 when the former School of Art and Design (TAIK) and the Department of Architecture at the School of Engineering merged together.
Admissions for programmes in architecture and landscape architecture remain in the field of technology and engineering. Admissions for programmes in the former School of Art and Design remain in the field of art and design.
