Master of Arts
The application period for Master’s Degree Programmes has ended 15 Feb 2012. Next application period will start at the beginning of 2013.
The purpose of the education in the two-year Master’s degree programmes is to provide students with the demanding theoretical, factual, artistic and practical competence required for working in the chosen field, as well as the ability to independently conduct demanding tasks requiring art and design expertise, skills in independent artwork, and the necessary prerequisites for taking further education or doctoral studies in art and design. The degree consists of a previously completed Bachelor of Arts programme or other equivalent studies, plus advanced studies in the field of choice encompassing 120 ECTS credits, which can be completed in two years. These advanced studies comprise topics in a field of specialisation, research methods in the field of art and design, and a thesis, which can consist of artwork, design work or research.
You may only apply for one two-year Master’s degree programme in the field of Art and Design each year. Your choice is binding and cannot be changed after the application has been submitted.

The studies place importance on the students’ independent work, on honing their creative expression in planning and creating the Master’s thesis, and on developing theoretical thinking in film aesthetics.

Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture was formed on 1 January 2012 when the former School of Art and Design (TAIK) and the Department of Architecture at the School of Engineering merged together.
