Aalto Doctoral Programmes

Doctoral education at Aalto is based on high-level research.The purpose of doctoral studies is for the doctoral candidate to acquire more profound knowledge and skills in scientific research and artistic expression and their practical application than is provided by master’s degree studies. The doctoral education equips the doctoral candidate with skills in scientific research and expert tasks. The graduated doctor can work with a wide variety of tasks in international environments in all sectors of society.

Aalto University offers the following postgraduate degrees:

Doctor of Arts
Doctor of Science (Economic and Business Administration)
Doctor of Science (Technology/Architecture)
In specific cases, Doctor of Philosophy can also be taken

In the field of economics and  technology a pre-doctoral postgraduate degree of a Licentiate of Science (Economics or Technology/Architecture)  can be awarded before the doctor’s degree. The doctoral education at Aalto is implemented in six doctoral programs, which include all doctoral students:

Doctoral candidates can also apply to the national doctoral programmes. Aalto Univesrity coordinates 16 of the national doctoral programmes and takes part in 40 of thedoctoral programmes coordinated by other universities. You can find more information on Aalto Schools web pages.
