Who can apply
The Master’s Degree Programme in Environmental Art (started in 2004) is intended for both international and Finnish students.
Description of the degree programme
This programme challenges students to develop their artistic and conceptual skills in diverse issues related to spaces. Land art, installations, spatial art, public art and communal projects form the field of environmental art, in which physical, social and informative spaces meet ecological questions and the global reality. Graduates are able to work in various posts related to the visual nature of the environment, in collaboration
with experts from diverse fields (e.g. architects, environmental designers), or as independent artists. Students have opportunities for creating new paths in the field of art and influencing our environment’s design and future.
Structure of the programme
Studies in the Environmental Art include intensive workshops, seminar series spanning the whole year, expert lectures and field trips to various environments. Students are free to choose the materials and tools they wish to use. An essential aspect of studying environmental art is formulating visions for the future and assuming responsibility for sustainable development.
Course languages
The degree programme is in English, but the written part of the thesis can be in Finnish or English.
