The application period for Master’s Degree Programmes has ended 15 Feb 2012. Next application period will start at the beginning of 2013.

Who can apply
The two-year Master’s Degree Programme is open to graduates of a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion and Clothing Design or a similar degree. The programme allows students to focus on deepening the professional skills and knowledge achieved in previous studies or at work, and diversifying and developing their artistic expression. The objective is to produce creative specialists to meet the changing needs of society and business.

Description of the degree programme
Students deepen their skills in the intersections between the worlds of art, commerce, industry and research. The purpose of the programme is to increase and/or broaden the students’ skills and ability in responding to the new demands of the field. The core competences in the programme are artistic expression, entrepreneurship, functional design, trend forecasting and research. Studies are full-time.

Structure of the programme
The studies consist of modules that focus on the degree programme’s core competences, as well as changing project modules in which students participate in teamwork and contests. Students take one module at a time. Studies can also be supplemented with modules from the other programmes at the Department of Design and the other Departments within the School of Art and Design, and minor subject modules from the School of Art and Design or other universities in line with the personal study plan. Some studies can be taken in international exchanges or as practices. Second-year students complete an independent thesis, where they demonstrate the vision, skills and conceptual and research competence that define their professional orientations.

Course languages
Finnish and English. International students can complete the degree in English. Students have the right to complete their thesis in Swedish if they wish.

Employment prospects
Studying under experts in the field increases the students’ ability to work as specialists in various areas. Graduates can find employment in Finland or abroad, in industrial and commercial collection design, as visual designers, in purchasing, coordination or trend analysis, as fashion editors, in media and marketing companies, as costume designers for the film, theatre and entertainment industries, or as independent entrepreneurs
or researchers.

Evaluation criteria in applicant selection
Evaluations focus on creative personal visions, design and expression skills, target-orientedness, motivation and the ability to commit to full-time higher education.
