The application period for Master’s Degree Programmes has ended 15 Feb 2012. Next application period will start at the beginning of 2013.

Who can apply?
The programme is open to graduates of a Bachelor’s degree in textile art and design or another equivalent degree.

Description of the degree programme
The aim of the Master’s Degree Programme in Textile Art and Design is to deepen and extend the professional competence acquired by students in the previous degrees and possibly in the workplace. The degree programme’s focal points are collection design and management, functional design and new materials, entrepreneurship and business competence, trend forecasting and trend research, artistic expression and research. It also includes familiarisation with the international market and the principles of sustainable development.

Structure of the programme
The period-based structure of the two-year Master’s degree programme allows students to go deeply into their chosen fields. The studies comprise advanced modules and projects
with varying contents. At the beginning of the programme, students formulate a personal study plan with two advanced modules from the own Master’s Degree Programme, as well
as 1-2 modules from the Department of Design or other Departments within the School of Art and Design, or minor studies from the School of Art and Design or other universities.
Students take one advanced module at a time, on a full-time basis. During the second year, students complete an independent thesis, in which they reinforce the skill-based, conceptual and research competences on which they are to build their professional profiles.

Course languages
Finnish and English. International students can complete the degree in English. The programme can also be completed in Swedish.

Employment prospects
The aim of the programme is to produce creative specialists in textiles to meet the needs of society, international industry and commerce, and research institutions. Graduates can
work in product design, coordination or purchasing within industry and commerce, as experts in trend forecasting or conceptualisation, specialists in textiles, or visual designers,
suppliers, independent entrepreneurs, freelance designers, artists or researchers.

Evaluation criteria in applicant selection
The Master’s Degree Programme chooses motivated students with a wealth of ideas, who are interested in their visual surroundings and in designing its materials.
