Master's Program in Finance offers high quality teaching that is directly applicable both to strategic decisions (e.g. mergers and acquisitions) and to day-to-day management of the firm (e.g. portfolio and risk management). The emphasis of the courses is on exercises and cases.
The Master’s Program in Finance has two areas of concentration to choose from:
Students focus on such questions as analyzing and choosing investment projects, mergers and acquisitions, agency theory, investment banking and obtaining funds from the primary markets, project and trade finance, and capital structure and dividend policy decisions.
Students focus on issues such as the behavior and determinants of security prices, their implications on portfolio management, behavioral finance and investor psychology, venture capital, risk management, as well as using and pricing options, futures, and other derivatives.
All prospective Finance students should have reasonable analytical skills and be comfortable with numbers. Computer literacy – a good knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, as well as statistical packages such as SAS – is a must. A fluent command of English is necessary both for your studies and job market entry. Fluency in Swedish may also be a plus.
Finance studies prepare initially for specialist positions. After a few years of work experience graduates often proceed to general management positions.
Most Finance graduates find their first jobs in the financial industry, such as investment and commercial banks, brokerage firms, mutual fund companies, and insurance companies. Management consulting companies, industrial corporations, and public institutions are also important employers of Finance graduates.
