Learn to understand the human brain, mind and behaviour. Create the science of the future!
The Master's degree programme in Brain and Mind is aimed at highly motivated and talented students who want to learn skills and knowledge that enable them to conduct demanding research on the mechanisms and neural basis of human mind. The selected students will learn modern systems-level research methodology of the brain, mind, and human cognition and gain good command of signal analysis, computational analysis and modelling methods.
The programme is liberal arts spirited in the sense that it imparts general knowledge to develop the student's rational thought and intellectual capabilities. Its unique emphasis is on the integration of various perspectives in the study of human mind, including neuroscience, computational analysis and modelling, psychology, sociology, physics, and culture. Studies are tailored taking into account the students’ background education and field of interest. A significant portion of the studies will take place in research groups.
The masters' degree programme in Brain and Mind is organized by the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Computational Science (BECS) and the Brain Research Unit (BRU) of the Low Temperature Laboratory. This guarantees that the programme draws directly from top quality research conducted in the field of brain and mind study. We train multidisciplinary scientists who after successful completion of their Master's degree have excellent skills for continuing their scientific education in Doctor’s degree programmes. There is continuous demand for such experts in the research units of Aalto University and other academic institutions world-wide and in a modern society that increasingly emphasises welfare of the brain from birth to old age.
