Communications Ecosystem

The programme covers areas ranging from technology to business aspects of communications networks and services. The programme sets out to educate multiskilled professionals and to promote collaboration between experts of technology, economics and design.

The programme was named Master’s Programme in Communications Ecosystem to stress the holistic nature of its curriculum. A communications ecosystem consists of three main components: human behaviour, business and technology. Students with a technical background need to acquire competence in all of these areas to understand the systemic behaviour of the whole ecosystem, which makes the objectives of the programme challenging.

The programme equips the students with skills needed when working for service and network operators, software houses, and companies using information services. Typical tasks include the planning and management of research and development, marketing, as well as business processes. The core competence of our graduates consists of technical, business, and social mastery of communication systems. Successful candidates for the programme have a bachelor’s degree in either computer science or communications engineering, while expertise in business and economics or in social and system sciences is considered an advantage but is not required.

The strong points of the Department of Communications and Networking in charge of the programme are Internet technologies, the techno-economics of mobile Internet services with a focus on service usage, network investments, and regulation. The department has carried out successful research in areas such as scenario planning, statistical usage analysis, system dynamics, and business simulation.
