International Design Business Management

The purpose of the IDBM program is to develop world-class expertise in global design business management through multidisciplinary research and learning that cuts across the areas of business, design and technology. The IDBM program aims to train skilled professionals for key roles in global design business. Arising from the needs of the industry, this program gives future marketers, engineering experts and designers an opportunity to practice important interpersonal skills through cooperative industry projects and specialized courses. The program builds on the business, design or technology skills and competence achieved at the bachelor’s level, enabling students to make full use of their own potential as members of interdisciplinary teams.

The program in brief:

  • 2-year Master's degree program with around 30 graduates per annum with special professional knowledge and strong skills profile in two other areas.
  • 1-year Minor program for design, business and technology master’s level students.
  • Strong global and industrial content.
  • Research projects, coordination activities and doctoral supervision in three core areas: (1) design management, (2) integrated multi- and interdisciplinary processes in design, business and technology, and (3) design for brand and product identity.
  • Functioning both as an independent unit with own staff and resources, and as a horizontal service of School of Art and Design, School of Economics and School of Science.
  • Test-bed for similar activities in other fields of the Aalto University

Admission procedure 2012

The applicants for master's degree should fill in the on-line application form, available only during the application period 2 January - 15 February.

Studying Technology

In addition to lectures, a course may include problem-solving exercises, individual or group design work or laboratory work.
