Sustainable Urban Transitions

The Nordic Master Programme in Sustainable Urban Transitions (NMP SUT) is a Nordic double degree master programme which has been developed by the Nordic Five Tech (N5T) collaboration. N5T is a strategic alliance of the five leading technical universities in Denmark (DTU), Finland (Aalto), Norway (NTNU) and Sweden (Chalmers, KTH).

Processes of urban planning, design, transition and management are highly complex and laden with compound uncertainties. NMP SUT provides integrated knowledge development and capacity building to young professionals and offers a comprehensive and relevant master programme in the urban development topic area.

NMP SUT forms a new joint subject area: planning and design for Sustainable Urban Transitions, where systems thinking, participative and scenario approaches, risk reduction, research by design and generative planning are key concepts.

Students applying to Aalto University will participate in the Human Oriented Urban Transitions track. The track is eligible for students having a bachelor in architecture and who wish to concentrate on sustainable urban planning and design in their master program. In this track, the students study the first year at Aalto University and the second year at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden.

More information can be found on the programme's website.
